A huge Thank You to everyone who has read, commented on, and shared this newsletter over the past several weeks! Your support and curiosity keep these conversations going.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be diving deep into reader questions about building a career in advanced manufacturing.
Here’s a quick experiment: ask a friend or family member to picture a career in manufacturing. What do they see? Chances are, they imagine heavy manual labor, repetitive tasks, or outdated and dirty factory settings. But that image is far from reality.
Today’s manufacturing is high-tech, highly automated, and constantly evolving. The skills needed to thrive in this field are increasingly technical—think robotics, programming, and precision engineering. It’s an exciting, dynamic space with incredible career potential.

Q: I’m considering a career in manufacturing. What should I read to learn more about advanced manufacturing?
I’ll be the first to admit—most of what I know about manufacturing, I learned on the job. There’s truth to the saying: the best way to learn is by doing. Internships and apprenticeships are fantastic entry points into advanced manufacturing, offering hands-on experience that no book can replicate.
That said, here are some of the books and resources that have made a big impact on my career:
